To Bless the Space Between Us

by John O’Donohue

Praise be to your mother and father
who loved you before you were,
and trusted to call you here
with no idea who you would be.
 -From:  For your Birthday

Glenview has a leaning toward the Celts with our Scottish background and architecture but this beautiful book belongs to us all.  O’Donohue was once referred to by a friend as a love-letter to humanity and this book will give credence to such a description.  Reading these poetic prayers and blessings will lead you into deeper discovery and appreciation of your own life and transitions; sharing them will bless others and bring them on a similar journey.
One of the blessings (For one who holds power) was read to President Obama by a city mayor as he prepared to take office.  This book is made all the more poignant knowing that O’Donohue died suddenly in January.

Good Poems for Hard Times

Selected by Garrison Keillor

In his introduction to this collection of poetry Keillor writes:
"This is a book of poems that if I knew you better and if you were in a hard passage I might send you one or two along with a note, the way people used to do, believing in the bracing effect of bold writing. "

The collection is a delight and balm.

The Communication Ministry team is currently reading Church Marketing 101, by Richard L. Reisling.  The book provides a good framework for developing a strategic communication plan for a church, and implementing that vision across all aspects of a church.

Reisling runs Artistry Marketing, a communication firm that specializes in church marketing.  He also writes the blog Beyond Relevance which explores many many ideas covered in the book.
